Udupi, Jan 15: Udupi district deputy commissioner Swaroopa T K, IAS, has cautioned the public and government officials against fake social media accounts being created using her name and photograph.

Unidentified persons have created fake social media accounts by misusing DC Swaroopa T K’s name and photo and are sending messages seeking transfer of money under various pretexts.

The deputy commissioner informed that a formal complaint has already been lodged in this regard at the CEN police station, Udupi, and legal action has been initiated.

Despite this, such incidents are reportedly being repeated. Therefore, the deputy commissioner has appealed to all officials and the general public that if any messages seeking money transfer or making other demands are received on social media platforms using her name and photograph, they should not respond to such messages.

Instead, recipients are advised to immediately lodge a complaint with the CEN police station upon receiving such messages.

The district administration has urged citizens to remain vigilant and avoid falling prey to online fraud.
