Bengaluru, Jan 14: A domestic help was caught after she allegedly posted a photograph wearing a stolen branded wristwatch as her WhatsApp status, inadvertently helping her employer trace missing valuables from his house.
The accused, identified as Soumya (26), a resident of Doddakannahalli, has been arrested by the Bellandur police for allegedly stealing a branded watch and gold jewellery from the house where she was employed.

Police said Rohit (39), an employee of a private company residing in an apartment on Sarjapur Road, lodged a complaint on January 5 in this regard.
According to the complaint, gold jewellery weighing 42 grams, including a mangalasutra, a pair of imitation earrings and a Michael Kors branded wristwatch went missing from his house on December 8, 2025.
When questioned by the family, Soumya reportedly denied the theft and subsequently stopped coming to work. However, on December 28, Rohit noticed a WhatsApp status uploaded by Soumya, in which she was seen wearing a Michael Kors wristwatch identical to the one missing from his house.
Realising it was the same watch, Rohit took screenshots and approached the police with evidence.
The police detained Soumya on January 8. During interrogation, she allegedly confessed to the crime. Gold jewellery worth Rs 4.5 lac and the wristwatch valued at Rs 20,000 were recovered from her possession, police said.
Further investigation is underway.
