Mangaluru, Jan 12: Abhaya Friends Registered Trust is a refreshing reminder that hope and wisdom often emerge from the simplest of beginnings. A committed band of 15 individuals beautifully blends the spirit of philanthropy with the responsibility of giving back to society through their modest yet meaningful contributions. The trust celebrates compassion and highlights the strength of ordinary people from different walks of life coming together for a noble cause.
January 11 marked a red-letter day with the formal inauguration of the Abhaya Friends Trust, signifying a new step forward, strengthened by commitment and driven by the joy of involving society to reshape collective service. The programme began with a prayer led by Fr Maxim, parish priest of St Joseph’s Church, Jeppu, who invoked God’s blessings on the Abhaya Friends Trust on the occasion of its inauguration.

The programme had three key objectives. The first was the formal inauguration of Abhaya Friends Trust through the release of its logo by Michael D’Souza. The second was the presentation of the philanthropic vision of the trust, focusing on healthcare, education and shelter for the underprivileged. The third was the official release of the 290th ‘Wilfy Nite’ poster by Daijiworld media founder and managing director Walter Nandalike.
Speaking on the occasion, Michael D’Souza lauded the trust and emphasised that determination and imagination define boundary-breaking initiatives, affirming that the sky is the limit for individuals driven by a strong commitment to humanity. He described the trust as a reflection of a lifetime commitment, one that every member must carry forward with dedication.
He reminded the gathering that he firmly believes in giving back to the world, stating that people are merely trustees of the wealth in their possession. He remarked that 80 per cent of his income is channelled towards charitable causes, while the 20 per cent he retains is more than sufficient to lead a happy and contented life.
He further emphasised that love for one’s mother tongue, culture and motherland is the true hope for self-upliftment, as it beautifully blends humanity and hope in equal measure.
Releasing the 290th Wilfy Nite poster, Walter Nandalike remarked that it was heartening to see charity being practised through the three Ts — Time, Talent and Treasure. His inspiring message was truly uplifting for a newly commissioned trust.
Famous Konkani singer Meena Rebimbus, wife of late Wilfy Rebimbus, was also a guest at the event. The programme was compered by Olwin Miranda. Nirmal D’Souza, President of Abhaya Friends Trust, welcomed the gathering. A photo session was later held with the dignitaries, members of the trust and their families.
