'Sri Vedavardhana Teertha a ray of hope for Udupi', says Puttige Swamiji at civic felicitation

Udupi, Jan 10: “The Paryaya worship, performed without any expectation of personal gain and solely for the welfare of the world, is a great responsibility. Sri Vedavardhana Teertha Swamiji of Shiroor Math, who is set to assume the Paryaya responsibilities, has become a ray of hope for Udupi,” said Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji of Paryaya Sri Puttige Math.

Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji, presiding over and delivering blessings at the civic felicitation organised by the Udupi City Municipal Council in honour of the future Paryaya seer of Shiroor Math, Sri Vedavardhana Teertha, on January 9, said, “For society to function smoothly, divine grace is essential. Our elders and scholars have shown us the path of Paryaya by placing faith in Lord Sri Krishna. The ideological commitment, broad vision, and enthusiasm of Sri Vedavardhana Teertha Swamiji will contribute significantly to the development of the Udupi region. May the pace of development of this sacred place accelerate during his tenure.” He also expressed hope that the proposed Udupi Corridor project, which has been brought to the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will be realized.

Committee Honorary President and Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade said that just as different flowers together form a beautiful garland, everyone should come together to make the Shiroor Paryaya grand and successful.

Scholar Vidwan Satyanarayana Acharya delivered the felicitation address for the Shiroor seer. Subsequently, Sri Vedavardhana Theertha Swamiji was formally honoured on behalf of the citizens.

Accepting the civic honour, Sri Vedavardhana Theertha Swamiji said that Lord Krishna never abandons devotees who pray selflessly. Through service to Krishna, devotees will have the opportunity to receive his grace during his Paryaya. This is his first Paryaya, but for the people of Udupi, Paryaya comes once every two years, giving those rich experiences. Hence, he appealed to the people of Udupi to take keen interest and ensure the success of the Paryaya celebrations.

DC Swaroopa T K said, Udupi district attracts people due to its temples, educational institutions, and tourist destinations, making it an important tourism hub. The district’s rich history is a special asset. In the coming days, efforts will be made to promote philosophy and heritage. The district administration will always be ready to support the tourism department.

MLA Yashpal Suvarna, said, “We dream of bringing progress to the nation through society. For the people of Udupi, Paryaya is a Nadahabba. Puttige Swamiji has made Udupi more attractive to the public. Devotees who come here should be ensured Anna Brahma. We are planning to construct a welcome arch named ‘Parashurama Dwara’ at Ambagilu. We will conduct the Paryaya celebrations successfully,” he said.

The programme was welcomed by general secretary Mattaru Ratnakara Hegde. Damodara Sharma compered the event.

Present on the occasion were deputy commissioner of Udupi district and administrator of the City Municipal Council Swaroopa T K, MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, Paryaya Swagatha Committee working president Yashpal Suvarna, and treasurer Jayaprakash Kedlaya.
