PM Modi's wealth up 86%, LoP Rahul Gandhi's surges 117%: ADR report

New Delhi, Jan 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s total assets have risen by 86% over the past decade, while Congress leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has seen his wealth grow by 117%, according to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch.

The analysis is based on data submitted in affidavits to the Election Commission, providing a detailed picture of changes in the declared assets of top political leaders over successive election cycles.

In 2014, Modi’s declared assets were Rs 1.65 crore, rising to Rs 2.51 crore in 2019 and Rs 3.02 crore in 2024, an increase of Rs 1.26 crore over ten years, reflecting an 82% rise.

According to his affidavit, the prime minister does not own any immovable property or personal vehicles. He holds Rs 2.86 crore in the State Bank of India, Rs 9 lac in National Savings Certificates, and gold jewellery worth Rs 2.7 lac. He has no investments in shares, mutual funds, or bonds.

Representing the Varanasi constituency in Uttar Pradesh, Modi’s assets have steadily grown, mirroring broader trends in asset accumulation among senior political figures.

Rahul Gandhi

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, elected from Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh, has seen his assets rise from Rs 9.40 crore in 2014 to Rs 15.88 crore in 2019, reaching Rs 20.39 crore in 2024 — a total increase of Rs 10.99 crore, or 117% over the decade.

The report highlights the contrasting growth trajectories of India’s top political leaders, offering insights into the evolution of their declared wealth over the last ten years.
