43 years on, Anil Kapoor hails Kannada cinema’s global rise

Mumbai, Jan 9: Veteran actor Anil Kapoor recently marked 43 years since his Kannada film debut Pallavi Anu Pallavi, celebrating the film that marked the beginning of his journey in Kannada cinema. Taking to social media platform X, the actor shared his joy and nostalgia, posting a short clip from the popular song “O Premi O Premi” from the film.

Calling Pallavi Anu Pallavi extremely special, Anil Kapoor said he feels proud to have started his cinematic journey with the Kannada film industry. Reflecting on the passage of time, he spoke warmly about how the industry has evolved over the decades.

In his post, Kapoor highlighted the remarkable growth of Kannada cinema, saying it was “incredible to see how Kannada cinema is booming and redefining Indian cinema globally.” He added that watching Kannada films reach audiences across India and beyond gives him immense happiness, noting that the success feels deeply personal as it all began with his debut film.

The actor also praised the current generation of Kannada filmmakers and stars who are taking the industry to new heights. “Salute to Yash, Prashanth Neel, Rishab Shetty and the teams behind KGF and Kantara for raising the bar so high,” he wrote, adding that he hopes his association with the Kannada film industry is not yet over.

Responding to Kapoor’s post, Kantara star Rishab Shetty shared a heartfelt message, calling Anil Kapoor a true legend of Indian cinema. He said it was an honour to meet and interact with him, and added that Pallavi Anu Pallavi remains one of his favourite films.

Earlier this year, Anil Kapoor had also spoken about his desire to return to Kannada cinema. He said films like KGF and Toxic show how the industry is producing stories that resonate with audiences worldwide. Expressing admiration for films rooted in Indian culture and values, he cited Kantara as an example of cinema that connects across borders, adding that now feels like the right time to be part of such meaningful and globally appealing projects again.
