Bantwal, Jan 9: A forest fire broke out at Anilakatte forest, near Vittal, resulting in large-scale destruction of trees and shrubs, on Thursday.
On receiving information about the fire, local residents rushed to the spot in large numbers and made efforts to bring the blaze under control. However, as the fire could not be fully extinguished, the Bantwal Fire and Emergency Services were alerted.

Fire personnel later arrived at the location and carried out a firefighting operation with the support of local residents, eventually managing to douse the flames.
Sources said there was a delay in the arrival of the fire tender at Vittal as the vehicle had been deployed elsewhere at the time of the call.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
