Mangaluru, Jan 8: St Antony Church, Anthonykatte, witnessed a moment of deep spiritual joy and community celebration with the inauguration and blessing of the Marian Wall-Grotto on Tuesday, January 6. A large gathering of parishioners, benefactors, and devotees came together to mark this grace-filled occasion.
The solemn Holy Mass and blessing of the Marian Wall-Grotto was celebrated by Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop emeritus of the Mangalore diocese. In his homily, the bishop Emeritus highlighted the significance of devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and encouraged the faithful to draw inspiration from her life of humility, obedience, and faith. The newly blessed Marian Wall-Grotto now stands as a symbol of prayer, hope, and Marian devotion for the parish and the surrounding community.

























































The inauguration of the Marian Wall-Grotto was graciously carried out by Roy Prakash and Cheryl Simson, the generous donors of the grotto, whose contribution was acknowledged with gratitude and appreciation by the parish. Their gesture was applauded as a meaningful act of faith and commitment towards the spiritual growth of the parish.
Following the Mass and blessing, a felicitation programme was held. The dignitaries were formally welcomed to the dais. The programme began with a warm welcome address by the parish priest, Fr Francis Rodrigues, who expressed heartfelt thanks to the bishop emeritus, the donor, and all those who contributed to making the event a success. This was followed by a felicitation of Roy Prakash and Cheryl Simson in recognition of their generosity, led by Rajesh D’Costa, vice president. Their sons, Samuel Simson and Yohan Simson, were also felicitated on the occasion in recognition of their excellence
Rajesh D’Costa, vice president of the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC), Sujatha D’Souza, secretary of the PPC, and Felix Mathias, Gurkar of Fathima Ward, were also present on the dais.
Adding a personal and joyful touch to the evening was the birthday celebration of Samuel Simson, which was warmly acknowledged by the gathering. The parish also took the opportunity to honour Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, expressing gratitude for his continued guidance, blessings, and presence among the faithful.
A fellowship dinner was served to all present, fostering a spirit of unity and togetherness. The event concluded on a joyful note, with a large crowd participating reverently and enthusiastically, making the inauguration and blessing of the Marian Wall-Grotto a truly memorable milestone in the history of St Antony Church, Anthonykatte.
The evening was further enriched by melodious singing by the Anthonykatte Choir Group, which added to the devotional and festive atmosphere. The programme was compered by Wilfred Mathias.
