Kadaba, Jan 7: A record number of over 1,400 Ashlesha Bali rituals were performed by devotees at the renowned Kukke Sri Subrahmanya temple on Tuesday, coinciding with the auspicious Ashlesha nakshatra day.

As Tuesday is considered a special day for Lord Subrahmanya and the Ashlesha nakshatra also fell on the same day, devotees thronged the hill shrine in large numbers from various parts of the state and outside.

The Ashlesha Bali ritual commenced at 6.30 am and continued uninterrupted till 11 am in five batches. Another batch of the ritual was conducted after 5 pm in the evening to accommodate the heavy rush of devotees.

Heavy crowd movement was witnessed within the temple premises, outer areas, Rathabeedi and the town market area. All designated vehicle parking areas were fully occupied due to the influx of pilgrims.

Temple authorities and staff were deployed in large numbers to guide devotees and ensure smooth conduct of rituals and crowd management throughout the day.
