Kozhikode, Jan 5: The Malayalam film industry is in mourning following the death of actor and production controller Kannan Pattambi, who passed away late Sunday night after a prolonged illness. He was 62.
Kannan Pattambi died at around 11.40 pm on January 4 while undergoing treatment for a kidney-related ailment at a private hospital in Kozhikode. The news was confirmed by his elder brother, filmmaker and actor Major Ravi, through a social media post.

Announcing the demise on Facebook, Major Ravi wrote that his younger brother had passed away late Sunday night and that the funeral would be held at Pattambi’s residence in Njangattiri at 4 pm on Monday.
Kannan Pattambi was a well-known and respected figure in the Malayalam film industry, with a career spanning several decades. He contributed extensively both in front of the camera and behind the scenes, earning recognition as a reliable production controller and supporting actor.
He frequently collaborated with Major Ravi, a former Indian Army officer-turned-director known for films based on military operations and national security. One of Kannan’s notable projects was Mission 90 Days, a film inspired by Major Ravi’s experiences during the investigation into the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, in which he played a key role in production.
Kannan Pattambi also worked on several films starring Mohanlal, including Pulimurugan, which became the first Malayalam film to cross the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office. His filmography includes 23 Malayalam films such as 12th Man, Karam Yodha, Kurukshetra, Black and Vettam.
In addition to acting, he served as the production controller for Kandahar (2010), a high-profile project featuring Mohanlal and Amitabh Bachchan. His passing has left a void in the industry, with colleagues and fans remembering him for his professionalism and quiet dedication to cinema.
