Beltangady: MDMA worth over Rs 5.54 lac seized; one arrested

Beltangady, Jan 4: Beltangady police have arrested a man and seized MDMA worth over Rs 5.54 lac from his possession during a routine patrol at Maddadka Pete in Kuvettu village of Beltangady taluk on Friday evening.

According to police, PSI Anand M of Beltangady police station, along with staff, was on rounds duty at around 4 pm when a man was found sitting suspiciously in a white car parked by the roadside near the MA Complex at Maddadka Pete. On being questioned, the accused identified himself as Ummar Shareef (42), a resident of Deralakatte, Kotekar, Mangaluru, and allegedly admitted that he had brought the banned narcotic substance MDMA for sale.

During a personal search conducted in the presence of panch witnesses, police recovered MDMA packed in eight plastic covers concealed inside four cigarette packets. The total weight of the seized MDMA was 55.48 grams, with an estimated value of Rs 5,54,800.

During interrogation, the accused reportedly disclosed that the contraband had been supplied by one Naushad, a resident of Sunnathkere.

Police also seized the car used for transporting the narcotic substance, bearing registration number KA-19 MG-4669, valued at approximately Rs 6 lac.

A case has been registered at Beltangady police station in Crime No 01/2026 under Sections 8(c) and 22(c) of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.
