Mangaluru, Jan 3: St Sebastian Church, Bendur, organized a silent prayer protest against the recent attacks on Christians during the Christmas celebrations to express their gradiences. The protest was held on Saturday January 3 in front of the church premises, witnessing a strong expression of faith, unity, and peaceful resistance.

The protest was led by the parish priest Fr Walter D’Souza, along with assistant priests Fr Vivek Pinto and Fr Ozmond D’Souza, and Fr Arun Lobo, principal of Padua College. Parish vice president Deepak D’Souza, secretary Royston Farias, office bearers and members of parish associations, convent superiors and sisters, and a large number of parishioners were present, standing together in solidarity.

The parish priest explained the purpose of the silent protest, emphasizing the need to respond to hatred and violence with prayer, peace, and unity. He reminded the faithful that the Christian response to injustice should always be rooted in love, truth, and non-violence.

The gathering then prayerfully recited the Holy Rosary, holding lighted candles as a symbol of hope, faith, and peace. The serene atmosphere reflected the parish’s deep concern over the attacks and its firm resolve to stand for religious freedom, harmony, and justice.

Parishioners, convent sisters, and members of various parish associations participated in large numbers, clearly demonstrating their support and solidarity with the affected Christian communities. The silent presence of the faithful sent a powerful message of unity and peaceful protest against intolerance.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by the parish secretary, expressing gratitude to the clergy, parishioners, and all who joined the protest and contributed to making it a meaningful and prayerful witness.

The silent protest stood as a strong reminder that faith, unity, and prayer remain the greatest strength of the Christian community in times of trial.
