Bantwal: Punacha man taken into custody for allegedly sheltering externed accused

Bantwal, Jan 3: Vittal police have taken a resident of Punacha into custody on charges of allegedly providing shelter to a person against whom an externment order had been issued. The incident was reported on Friday January 2.

The person taken into custody has been identified as Uday Rai, a resident of Kallaje in Punacha village. He is accused of providing shelter to an individual who had been externed from the Vittal police station limits.

According to police sources, rowdy-sheeter Kepu Ganesh, an accused in several serious cases under the Vittal police station jurisdiction, had been issued an externment order. Evading arrest, he had gone into hiding, prompting Vittal police to launch a search operation to trace him.

During the operation, police received credible information that the accused was hiding in Punacha village under the shelter of a local resident. Acting swiftly, a team from Vittal police station conducted a search in the village. It was found that Uday Rai of Kallaje had allegedly provided shelter to the rowdy-sheeter in his old house.

However, upon noticing the arrival of the police, rowdy-sheeter Ganesh Poojary managed to flee from the spot. Based on the allegation of sheltering Ganesh Poojary, Vittal police took Uday Rai into custody and are questioning him.

Police have stated that further investigation into the matter is underway.
