New Delhi, Jan 3: Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) continued to maintain status quo on petrol and diesel prices across the country on Friday, with fuel rates remaining unchanged in major cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.
OMCs revise fuel prices daily at 6 am, aligning them with fluctuations in global crude oil prices and currency exchange rates. This mechanism is aimed at ensuring transparency and providing consumers with the most up-to-date fuel rates. However, petrol and diesel prices have largely remained frozen since May 2022, following excise duty cuts by the Centre and several state governments.

Petrol and diesel prices in major cities (Rs per litre):
• New Delhi: Petrol Rs 94.72 | Diesel Rs 87.62
• Mumbai: Petrol Rs 104.21 | Diesel Rs 92.15
• Kolkata: Petrol Rs 103.94 | Diesel Rs 90.76
• Chennai: Petrol Rs 100.75 | Diesel Rs 92.34
• Ahmedabad: Petrol Rs 94.49 | Diesel Rs 90.17
• Bengaluru: Petrol Rs 102.92 | Diesel Rs 89.02
• Hyderabad: Petrol Rs 107.46 | Diesel Rs 95.70
• Jaipur: Petrol Rs 104.72 | Diesel Rs 90.21
• Lucknow: Petrol Rs 94.69 | Diesel Rs 87.80
• Pune: Petrol Rs 104.04 | Diesel Rs 90.57
• Chandigarh: Petrol Rs 94.30 | Diesel Rs 82.45
• Indore: Petrol Rs 106.48 | Diesel Rs 91.88
• Patna: Petrol Rs 105.58 | Diesel Rs 93.80
• Surat: Petrol Rs 95.00 | Diesel Rs 89.00
• Nashik: Petrol Rs 95.50 | Diesel Rs 89.50
Despite daily revisions on paper, fuel prices continue to be influenced by a combination of global crude oil trends, exchange rates, central and state taxes, refining costs and demand-supply dynamics. Taxes, in particular, form a significant component of retail fuel prices and vary from state to state, resulting in regional differences.
Consumers can also check city-wise fuel prices via SMS. Indian Oil customers can send the city code followed by “RSP” to 9224992249. BPCL users can text “RSP” to 9223112222, while HPCL customers can send “HP Price” to 9222201122 to receive the latest rates.
