Sullia, Jan 3: A rubber stock house was gutted in a fire accident reported from Chembu on Thursday, causing significant damage to property.

The incident occurred at a rubber stock house belonging to Subrahmanya Upadhyaya of Chembu village. The fire reportedly broke out accidentally, completely destroying the stock house along with stored rubber sheets. Two cars parked beside the structure were also damaged in the blaze.

Sources said Upadhyaya was not at home at the time of the incident. He had returned earlier in the morning after tapping rubber and storing the sheets inside the stock house. Passersby on the adjacent road noticed smoke billowing from the area and rushed to the spot, where they found the structure engulfed in flames.

They immediately alerted nearby residents, who made efforts to douse the fire and prevent it from spreading further.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
