Brahmavar, Dec 31: The 29th death anniversary of Servant of God Fr Alfred Roche OFM Cap, fondly remembered as “Amcho Padryab,” was observed with deep reverence and solemnity at Holy Family Church, Brahmavar.
Fr Alfred Roche holds a unique place in the history of the Udupi diocese as the first person from the newly formed diocese to be declared a Servant of God. The Holy Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Fr Melroy Peter D’Silva who also delivered the homily. Addressing the faithful, Fr Melroy expressed his joy at being part of the commemoration and reflected on the life of Fr Alfred Roche. He said that Fr Alfred lived his life in complete harmony with God and called upon the faithful to imitate his values by being good human beings and extending help to society whenever needed.
On this occasion, the 2026 calendar in memory of Fr Alfred Roche was officially released by Fr Melroy Peter D’Silva and distributed free of cost to all those present. Fr Rohan Lobo OFM Cap expressed his gratitude to all benefactors and donors who supported the organisation of the programme.
After the Mass, a short prayer service was held at the cemetery adjacent to the church, in front of the burial place of Fr Alfred Roche.
