Nandurbar, Dec 27: A shocking murder in a remote village of Maharashtra’s Nandurbar district has sent shockwaves across the region. A 45-year-old woman who had stepped out of her house to watch village Diwali celebrations went missing and was later found murdered inside a dilapidated house. Police investigations have revealed a chilling conspiracy behind the crime, leading to the arrest of two accused.
The deceased has been identified as Shanubai Shanya Thakre (45), a resident of Raikhed village in Shahada taluk. On the night of December 29, Shanubai had left her home to watch the village Diwali festivities. When she failed to return, her family launched a search, during which her blood-soaked body was found in an abandoned house belonging to one Vijay Manji Chavan. Visible injuries on her head indicated a brutal assault.

Following information about the incident, a team from Mhasawad police station rushed to the spot and began an intensive investigation. Based on a complaint lodged by Leelabai Jamsing Sonawane, a murder case was initially registered against unknown persons. Acting swiftly, police cracked the case within hours and arrested Ravindra Fatya Suryavanshi of Raikhed and Dilip Dashrath Bhil alias Suryavanshi of Jawkheda, both from Shahada taluk.
Police said that the deceased was Ravindra Suryavanshi’s relative, described as his ‘akad sasoo’. Ravindra allegedly used to receive money from her frequently. On the day of the incident, he reportedly demanded money for liquor, which she refused, leading to an argument. Nursing a grudge, Ravindra, with the help of Dilip Bhil, allegedly attacked Shanubai by smashing her head against a cement pole and striking her with a brick, killing her on the spot.
Both accused have been booked for murder at Mhasawad police station. Further investigation in the case is being carried out by in-charge police officer Nitin Kame.
