Puttur, Dec 26: A potential mishap was averted due to the timely presence of mind of a passenger after a KSRTC bus driver developed chest pain while driving on December 25.
The incident occurred when KSRTC bus driver Govinda Naik was driving the bus from Subrahmanya to Karwar. As the bus approached Karavelu in Perne village, the driver reportedly complained of chest pain and began losing control of the vehicle.

Noticing the situation, Salmanul Faris, son of advocate Ismail of Nelyadi, who was travelling on the bus, immediately rushed to the driver’s seat, slowly brought the moving bus under control and safely parked it by the roadside.
The driver was promptly shifted to the Uppinangady government hospital, where he was given first aid, and was later taken to a hospital in Mangaluru for further treatment. Thanks to the passenger’s alertness and swift action, a major accident was narrowly avoided.
Later, with the assistance of transport officials, the bus was brought to the Uppinangady bus stand, sources said.
