Chandigarh, Dec 25: In a major New Year initiative for residents of Punjab, chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday approved the launch of the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, a comprehensive health insurance scheme that will provide cashless medical treatment of up to Rs 10 lac per family across the state. The scheme is set to be implemented from January.
Chairing a review meeting of the Health Department in Chandigarh, the chief minister described the programme as a landmark step towards universal healthcare, ensuring that citizens receive quality treatment without bearing any financial burden.

“Punjab will become the first state in the country where every family will be entitled to cashless treatment of up to Rs 10 lac. People will not have to spend even a single rupee for treatment,” Mann said.
He said the Mukh Mantri Sehat Beema Yojna is a flagship initiative aimed at offering financial security and guaranteed access to healthcare services for all eligible residents. Under the scheme, each enrolled family will be able to avail cashless medical care worth Rs 10 lac annually.
The coverage includes treatment for major illnesses, critical care, surgeries and life-saving procedures at a wide network of empanelled government and private hospitals across Punjab and Chandigarh. The chief minister said the initiative would ensure equal access to healthcare for people living in both urban and rural areas.
“The focus is on providing cashless and paperless treatment, reducing out-of-pocket expenses on secondary and tertiary healthcare, and strengthening grievance redressal through digital platforms,” he added.
According to Mann, the scheme will cover hospitalisation expenses, surgical procedures, ICU and critical care services, diagnostic tests, medicines and consumables under approved packages, along with pre- and post-hospitalisation costs.
The state government believes the rollout of the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna will significantly ease the healthcare burden on families and mark a decisive move towards inclusive and accessible healthcare for all Punjabis.
