Ahmedabad, Dec 24: A horrifying incident came to light in Ahmedabad’s Bapunagar area on December 23, where a domestic dispute inside a Gujarat Housing Board residence ended in murder and suicide, police said.
According to Bapunagar police, Mehul Thakor allegedly murdered his wife Neeta by attacking her neck and left hand with a sharp weapon before dying by suicide by hanging himself. The couple, married for four years, lived in the housing board complex where the incident occurred.

Preliminary investigations and injury marks on the bodies indicate that a fierce altercation preceded the deaths. “The injuries suggest a violent fight before the incident. Prima facie, it appears the husband killed his wife and then died by suicide,” a senior police officer said.
The gruesome scene was discovered when Mehul’s younger brother, Rahul Thakor, returned home around 9.30 pm after work. Finding the house locked and receiving no response despite repeated knocking, Rahul attempted to contact both Mehul and Neeta, but their phones were unreachable.
Alarmed, Rahul climbed onto the terrace, jumped to the rear side of the house and peeped through a window. Using his mobile phone flashlight, he spotted blood splattered on the floor and motionless feet inside the dark room. He immediately alerted relatives, who forced open the door.
Inside, Mehul was found hanging with a saree, while Neeta lay on the floor in a pool of blood with deep injuries on her neck, chest and ribs. The landlord called the 108 ambulance service, but doctors declared both dead at the spot. Police were then informed and rushed to the scene.
Based on Rahul’s complaint, police registered a murder case and launched an investigation. Rahul, a native of Bhilachal village in Banaskantha district’s Dantiwada taluka, had been staying with the couple for over two years. The family’s father passed away in 2023, while their mother lives in their native village.
Neeta worked as a domestic help in the society, while Mehul and Rahul were employed locally. Investigators believe the trio returned home after work in the evening, following which the fatal confrontation occurred behind closed doors.
Police said the exact cause of the dispute is yet to be ascertained. Relatives and neighbours are being questioned and forensic evidence is being examined as part of the ongoing probe.
The incident has left residents of the Gujarat Housing Board complex in shock over a marriage that ended in bloodshed and a night marked by silence and unanswered questions.
