Puttur, Dec 22: Uppinangady police, with the assistance of Hassan district police, nabbed a 22-year-old youth in connection with the theft of an ambulance from Gundya check post limits and recovered the stolen vehicle. The accused has been identified as Shodan (22), a resident of Karkala in Udupi district. After interrogation, he was produced before the competent court, and the stolen ambulance was seized by the police.

Following a complaint, a case was registered at the Uppinangady police station under Crime No. 117/2025 under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and an investigation was taken up. The accused was taken into custody on December 20, in Hassan.

According to the complaint lodged by Suresh (46), a resident of Shiradi in Kadaba, he was working as the driver of an ambulance bearing registration number KA-19-C-7557. As part of his daily routine, he used to park the ambulance near the Gundya check post every night, lock it and return home.

On the night of December 19, he parked the ambulance at the usual spot near the Gundya check post. Anticipating a possible emergency call related to an accident and for the convenience of an alternative driver, he left the ambulance key inside the vehicle before going home.

However, on the morning of December 20, when he returned to the spot where the ambulance had been parked, he found that the vehicle was missing, following which he lodged a complaint with the police.
