From farmer’s family to IAS: Abhi Jain’s journey of perseverance and purpose

Daijiworld Media Network - Bhopal

Bhopal, Dec 21: Abhi Jain, son of a farmer from Madhya Pradesh, has secured All India Rank 34 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024, achieving his long-cherished goal of entering the Indian Administrative Service. The success comes in his fifth attempt at the examination and marks a significant milestone in a journey marked by persistence, professional commitment, and self-driven preparation.

Abhi, who hails from Bhopal, began his UPSC journey in 2020 at the age of 20. In his first attempt, he was selected for the Indian Postal Service and later served as Senior Superintendent of Posts in Prayagraj. Despite securing a rank of 282 in his second attempt, he continued to pursue the IAS, facing setbacks in subsequent years, including failing to clear the preliminary examination in one attempt. His fifth attempt culminated in securing AIR 34 in the 2024 examination.

Born to farmer Mahendra Jain and homemaker Sunita Jain, Abhi credits his family as his strongest support system. He has acknowledged the role of his elder brother Vipul Jain and sister-in-law Sanjoli in providing financial and emotional support throughout his preparation.

Notably, Abhi prepared for the examination without enrolling in any formal coaching institute. He relied on self-study, online resources, and insights gained from previous attempts. A graduate in Political Science from Delhi University, he chose the subject as his optional and began preparing for civil services during his college years.

Since October 2024, Abhi has been posted in Prayagraj as Senior Superintendent of Posts and was also entrusted with responsibilities related to Maha Kumbh preparations. Balancing official duties with examination preparation, he studied during early mornings and late nights, adjusting his schedule based on work demands. He has stated that consistency and focus mattered more to him than counting study hours.

Abhi believes that civil services should be viewed as an opportunity rather than a final destination. He has advised aspirants to prepare with a clear strategy, focus on the demands of the examination, and avoid extending preparation indefinitely at the cost of personal growth. He has also emphasised that civil services preparation should not consume an individual’s youth if pursued with proper planning.

Spiritually inclined, Abhi has expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve during the Maha Kumbh and believes faith helped him remain grounded during challenging phases. Outside work and studies, he enjoys watching Hollywood films and writing blogs as a way to unwind.

With his latest success, Abhi Jain is set to transition from his current role in the Indian Postal Service to the IAS. His journey stands as an example of how determination, disciplined preparation, and clarity of purpose can help overcome repeated setbacks, regardless of one’s background.
