Senior journalist Dodda Bommaiah passes away due to heart attack

Bengaluru, Dec 20: Senior journalist and vice president of Karnataka Patrakartara Sahakara Sangha, Dodda Bommaiah, passed away today due to a heart attack.

Originally from Roppa village, Pavagada taluk, Tumakuru district, Dodda Bommaiah, son of Doddayya and Chikkamma, had a long and distinguished career in journalism. He began as a reporter for Sanje Vani and was currently associated with Indu Sanje. He also worked as a part-time assistant news editor for Akashvani and television channels. Over a career spanning nearly 30 years, he earned wide respect and a large circle of friends across the media community.

He had recently covered the winter session activities in Belagavi and returned to Bengaluru this morning. While boarding a BMTC bus after getting off a KSRTC bus, he suffered a severe heart attack and passed away on the spot despite assistance from fellow passengers.

Dodda Bommiah also served as an office-bearer at the Press Club and held several leadership roles within the media fraternity.

Expressing grief over his demise, Ramesh Palya, president of Karnataka Patrakartara Sahakara Sangha, along with other office-bearers, Shivananda Tagaduru, state president of Karnataka Working Journalists Association, Sridhar, Press Club president, Shivkumar Bellitatte, general secretary, and R T Vitthal Murthy, president of Reporters’ Forum, and several senior journalists conveyed their condolences.
