Dubai, Dec 19: With unstable weather conditions prevailing across the UAE, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has temporarily suspended several intercity bus services connecting Dubai with neighbouring emirates, prioritising commuter safety.
According to the RTA, the decision comes in the wake of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and reduced visibility reported on major highways. While bus services operating within Dubai continue, some routes may experience delays due to prevailing road conditions.

The temporary suspension mainly affects busy intercity corridors:
To Sharjah:
E303 (Union), E306 (Al Ghubaiba), E307 (Deira City Centre), E307A (Abu Hail) and E315 (Etisalat)
To Ajman:
E400 (Union) and E411 (Etisalat)
In addition, select services between Dubai and Abu Dhabi have also been paused intermittently during periods of intense weather.
The RTA clarified that the precautionary move is aimed at preventing commuters from being stranded in traffic congestion or exposed to unsafe road conditions caused by waterlogging in low-lying areas.
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued alerts warning of thunderstorms, lightning and possible hail in parts of the country. Heavy rain has led to water accumulation on key arterial roads, including Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road.
By restricting the movement of heavy buses, authorities hope to ease traffic flow and allow emergency teams swift access to manage drainage and clear obstructions. Dubai Police have also urged residents to avoid non-essential travel until conditions improve.
The RTA stated that suspended services will resume only after thorough safety assessments by transport and police authorities. No fixed timeline has been announced, as the situation depends on evolving weather patterns.
Commuters have been advised to stay updated through official channels, including the RTA’s X (formerly Twitter) account, the S’hail app and the RTA helpline at 800 90 90.
Passengers travelling within Dubai are encouraged to use the Metro, which continues to operate and may have extended hours during adverse weather. Authorities have also advised employees, where possible, to work from home to minimise travel risks.
The RTA’s Command and Control Centre is monitoring the situation round-the-clock through its dedicated Flood Management Room to ensure swift response and public safety.
