Udupi, Dec 15: In an electrifying final encounter between Mount Carmel Shirthady and Konkans Stars, Mount Carmel Shirthady manifested their sporting talent by scoring a thrilling victory over the Konkan Stars by winning “Winter Smash-2025 champions Trophy”, by a 2-0 lead.
Bellevision Global and Konkans Dubai organised an exciting and thrilling women’s throwball tournament “Winter Smash-2025” on Sunday, December 14 at St Lawrence English Medium High School Ground.
The entire tournament was coordinated by Elias D’Souza and Ivan Menezes from Bellevision Global side and Marina Menezes from Konkans Dubai. Seven women’s throwball teams participated in this tournament: Konkan Stars, Mangaluru; Lourdes Kanajar; Comblis, Moodubelle; Jasmine Pangala; Smashing Stars, Udupi; Mount Carmel, Shirthady and Bellevision, Moodubelle.

The ‘Winter Smash-2025’ tournament was inaugurated at 9 am in front of St Lawrence English Medium School. Fr George D’Souza-parish priest of St Lawrence Church, Moodubelle and Wilson Fernandes-proprietor of Fernandes Group of Businesses and chief sponsor of the Tournament were the chief guests. Other guests of honour included CA Pritish D’Sa-vice president of parish pastoral council. Elias D’Souza, Ivan Menezes and Marina Menezes were at the dais.
Fr George D’Souza along with other dignitaries Wilson Fernandes, the chief sponsor of the tournament was felicitated.
Marina Menezes administered the oath to the participating teams. Caroline Quadros compered the inaugural programme.
Former vice presidents of the parish pastoral council, Vincent Fernandes and Henry Fernandes were present on the occasion.
In his inaugural message, Fr George D’Souza said that though the chief aim of the participants in any tournament is to win the championship and those who lose in the game should not be disheartened as they have opportunities to win in the next game. He made an appeal to all players to try their best and participate in the tournament with sportsman spirit.
The formal inauguration of the ‘Winter Smash-2025’ was done at the Throwball court number one by Wilson Fernandes by releasing the throwball tied to a ribbon.
The tournament was played on a league basis. Prior to lunch all league matches were completed. Out of the seven teams four teams qualified for the semi-finals - Mount Carmel, Shirthady, Konkan Stars, Mangaluru, Comblis, Moodubelle and Smashing Stars, Udupi.
In the exciting semi-finals played after the lunch break between Mount Carmel Shirthady and Comblis, Moodubelle, Mount Carmel Shirthady emerged victorious and in another semi-final match played between Smashing Stars Udupi and Kankan Stars Mangalore, Konkan Stars were the winners.
In the encounter to decide the third place between Comblis Moodubelle and Smashing Stars Udupi, the latter became winners of third position.
Medals, caps and trophies were awarded to the best three teams: Smashing Stars Udupi secured the third place; Konkan Stars Mangalore stood second and Mount Carmel took the Champions’ Trophy of ‘Winter Smash-2025’.
Tournament official Vinay Shet-PT teacher of Milagres English Medium School, Kallianpur provided the running commentary of the tournament and earlier had explained the rules and regulations of the tournament to the participating teams.
Ivan Menezes compered the valedictory and prize distribution programme.
Besides Elias D’Souza, Ivan Menezes and Marina Menezes, PT teacher of St Lawrence English Medium High School, Moodubelle Bharat Shetty along with Joseph Martis and in association with the volunteers of the school had worked hard to make the ‘Winter Smash-2025’ Women’s Throwball Tournament a grand success.
