Mangaluru, Dec 12: Srinivas Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, under Srinivas University, inaugurated its central research laboratory on Thursday December 11, at Mukka campus in the presence of distinguished leaders from academia and research.
The programme was presided over by Dr CA A Raghavendra Rao, honourable chancellor of Srinivas University and president of A Shama Rao Foundation. He expressed immense happiness at the long-awaited sanctioning of the advanced research laboratory. He emphasized that providing state-of-the-art facilities would elevate student learning and research outcomes. “A basic laboratory becomes a place of service. This is a great opportunity for our doctors and researchers to innovate and reach heights as tall as the Himalayas,” he said. Highlighting the importance of continuous learning, he added, “Those who remain in research never grow old—research keeps you young and intellectually alive. Innovation is essential in medical science. Gain knowledge wherever possible, apply it, and strive to become leading scientists.”









Dr A Srinivas Rao, pro-chancellor of Srinivas University and vice president of A Shama Rao Foundation, noted that the new facility symbolises the beginning of many innovations that will emerge from students across disciplines. “All the installed equipment is of the latest technology and will encourage creativity across streams such as biochemistry, biotechnology and engineering. When technology and biology merge, groundbreaking ideas evolve. We encourage departments to work together and build collaborative innovations,” he said.
Dr Rao V L Papineni, PhD, founder-president of BBC Cure, University of Kansas Medical Center, USA, graced the occasion as the chief guest. described the new research lab as a “temple of innovation.” “Research nurtures discovery. Hands-on experience is crucial for the next generation. Many Indians go abroad and contribute significantly to global research; students here must treat these instruments as personal assets and gifts for the future. Share your innovations and inspire the next generation,” he advised. Commending the efforts behind setting up the facility, he added, “Research runs around the clock. I am truly proud to witness this initiative.”
Dr Suchetha Kumari N, director (research & development), emphasised that the central research laboratory would serve as a pivotal platform for fostering scientific curiosity and advanced research practices among students and faculty. She noted that the facility would provide hands-on exposure to sophisticated instruments, enhance interdisciplinary collaboration, and play a crucial role in nurturing a strong research culture within the institution.
Prof K Satyanarayana Reddy, vice-chancellor, Dr Anil Kumar, Srinivas University registrar, Dr Ajay Kumar Srinivas University Development registrar, Dr David Rosario, medical superintendent, Srinivas Hospital, Dr Edwin Dias, professor & HOD, department of paediatrics, Dr Praveen B M, director (research & innovation), Dr Jayashree Bolar, IQAC director were present as guests of honour.
The event began with a welcome address by Dr Uday Kumar Rao, dean, SIMS&RC, and was compered by Dr Vrindha J Bhat, professor and head, department of forensic medicine.
During the ceremony, five online international journals were formally released, marking another academic milestone for the University. The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr Divya Rane.
