Three resort staff die of suspected food poisoning in Chhatarpur; five critical

Chhatarpur, Dec 9: In a tragic incident, three employees of a resort in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district died late Monday night after allegedly consuming contaminated food. Shortly after their meal, they experienced severe stomach pain and uneasiness, prompting an emergency rush to the hospital.

According to officials, nine staff members were admitted to the Chhatarpur district hospital. Of them, four — Girja Rajak (35), Roshani Rajak (35), Hardik Soni (25), and Ramshwaroom Kushwaha (47) — succumbed during treatment. The remaining five, in critical condition, have been referred to hospitals in Jhansi and Gwalior for advanced care.

Dr. Roshan Dwivedi, head of the district hospital, confirmed that all nine victims were suffering from acute food poisoning. “Their condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to four deaths. The rest have been shifted for specialised treatment,” he said.

The Chhatarpur district administration has announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the families of each deceased. district collector Parth Jaiswal has ordered a detailed inquiry, and food samples from the resort have been collected for forensic testing.

Police teams have begun an investigation, with senior district officials joining the probe to determine the source of contamination and any possible negligence.

The incident comes at a time when the Madhya Pradesh Cabinet, including chief minister Mohan Yadav, is camped in Khajuraho for a special review meeting marking two years of the government. The tragedy has sparked widespread concern over food safety protocols at commercial establishments in the region.
