Washington, Dec 8: Outgoing Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has launched a scathing attack on US President Donald Trump, accusing him of abandoning his America First agenda and prioritising big donors and major industries instead of ordinary Americans.
In an interview with CBS News’ “60 Minutes”, Greene said Trump was no longer keeping domestic concerns at the centre of his presidency, pointing to his support for the crypto and pharmaceutical industries over measures that directly help citizens struggling with the high cost of living. She said their relationship had fractured as she realised he was not delivering for the MAGA base that first propelled him to power.

Greene cited her own break with the president on key issues, including affordability and foreign policy. During the recent government shutdown, she sided with Democrats to extend healthcare subsidies under the Affordable Care Act, a move she admitted she never imagined taking. She also became the only Republican member of Congress to publicly describe the war in Gaza as “genocide” and voted against the Antisemitism Awareness Act, despite earlier backing resolutions denouncing antisemitism.
Criticising what she called an empty ritual in Congress, Greene said repeated exercises on antisemitism had become performative. “It becomes an exercise that they force on Congress, and I simply got tired of it,” she said, adding, “We don’t have to get on our knees and say it over and over again.”
Greene also targeted fellow Republicans, claiming many privately mocked Trump but were too afraid to oppose him publicly for fear of being attacked on his social media platform, Truth Social. “I think they’re terrified to step out of line and get a nasty Truth Social post on them,” she said, alleging that colleagues who once ridiculed him later “started… kissing his ass” once he secured the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.
On the release of files related to Jeffrey Epstein, Greene revealed that Trump was “extremely angry” that she had signed a discharge petition to push for greater transparency. She said she reminded him that the true victims were the women who were abused as minors. “These women deserve to be heard,” she told him, urging that survivors be invited to the White House.
Greene further alleged that she received death threats after Trump publicly branded her a “lunatic” and a “traitor”, including a pipe bomb threat to her home and direct threats to her son. “The subject line for the direct death threats on my son was his words, ‘Marjorie Traitor Greene’,” she said. She informed both the president and Vice President JD Vance; she claimed Vance assured her the matter would be examined, while Trump’s reaction was “extremely unkind”.
Despite her break with Trump and her decision to resign from Congress, Greene’s support base in her Georgia district remains strong. She dismissed speculation about future bids for higher office, saying she has “zero desire” to run for president and no interest in seeking a Senate or governor’s post. “Surprise, surprise, I’m not your politician with a whole itinerary of plans or political ambitions,” she said, insisting she continues to see herself as “America First” even as she distances herself from the man who popularised the MAGA slogan.
