Charlotte, Dec 7: A violent knife attack on a commuter train in Charlotte has once again sparked fear and public anger, after a 33-year-old man stabbed a fellow passenger in broad daylight on Friday. Police identified the accused as Oscar Solarzano and said he has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, Solarzano allegedly wielded a large knife and attacked the victim following a heated argument inside the train. The injured passenger was rushed to hospital and remains in critical but stable condition. Preliminary investigation revealed that Solarzano appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the attack.

Officials informed that the accused is an illegal migrant who had earlier been deported from the United States. He is now being held in jail without bond and will be produced before the Mecklenburg County District Court on Monday.
This disturbing incident comes less than four months after a Ukrainian refugee, 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska, was brutally stabbed and killed in a similar attack on Charlotte’s rail network. The earlier case had triggered widespread concern over growing violent crimes and safety lapses in public transport.
Political reactions have intensified following the fresh assault. Former U.S. President Donald Trump took to social media to condemn the incident, accusing local Democratic leadership of failing to maintain law and order and protect citizens from crimes linked to illegal immigration.
Residents and commuters are demanding stricter safety measures on public transit, while authorities face immense pressure to tighten enforcement and ensure justice for the victims.
