Kundapur, Dec 6: Rachita Hathwar from Kundapur has been selected as the captain of the Karnataka team for the BCCI-organised under-19 women’s one-day cricket tournament to be held in Hyderabad from December 13 to 21. This is the first time she will be leading the state team.

Sixteen-year-old Rachita will also take up wicket-keeping responsibilities. She is currently representing Karnataka in the ongoing under-23 domestic T20 tournament, where she has been performing well as an opening batter.

Rachita has also secured a place in the Karnataka senior women’s probable list and is hopeful of breaking into the main squad. She is being trained by head coach Irfan Sait of the Karnataka Institute of Cricket Academy.
