Puttur: Drug peddling accused arrested with MDMA

Puttur, Dec 4: A notorious accused involved in drug peddling was arrested near the railway bridge at Mura in Kabaka village of Puttur taluk.

Acting on credible information that a man was in possession of narcotics for sale, police sub-inspector Anjaneya Reddy of the Puttur Town Police Station rushed to the spot with his team and detained the suspect. He was identified as Umar Farooq, 41, a resident of Kabaka in Puttur.

During the inspection of the accused and the two-wheeler he was using, the police recovered 10 grams of MDMA, a banned narcotic substance allegedly kept for sale. Umar Farooq was taken into custody, and a case has been registered at the Puttur Town Police Station under Crime No. 119/2025 for offences under Sections 8(C) and 22(b) of the NDPS Act.

During preliminary interrogation, police found that the accused already has six cases registered against him in various police stations across the district. Further legal action is underway.
