Udupi, Dec 3: The LMH auditorium was inaugurated at CSI Lombard Memorial (Mission) Hospital premises on December 3.
The auditorium was inaugurated by Hemachandra Kumar, bishop of CSI Karnataka Southern Diocese (KSD), by cutting the ribbon and leading the inaugural prayer.
The formal programme began with a prayer by Ivan D Soans, treasurer of Karnataka Southern Diocese, followed by lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries present.

Hemachandra Kumar, bishop of CSI Karnataka Southern Diocese, in his inaugural address said, “This auditorium is a meaningful gift from Lombard Hospital to society, and I express my gratitude to Dr Sushil Jathanna for it. Not everyone understands how to put resources to the best use, but when we are truly committed to service, we find purpose in everything. Dr Sushil Jathanna is one such person. One who serves society wholeheartedly receives the blessings of both God and the people. This auditorium will host seminars and various hospital-related programmes. Dr Sushil Jathanna was entrusted with the major responsibility of the Hassan and Mysore hospitals, and he successfully revived them.”
Shabih Ahmed Kazi, vice president of Udupi Zilla Muslim Okkoota (R), chief guest of the event, said, “There was a time when Mission Hospital was known only for childbirth, but today it offers a wide range of facilities. When Dr Sushil Jathanna is abroad, his thoughts remain with Mission Hospital. He dedicates most of his time to this institution.”
Jayakar Shetty Indrali, president of Udupi District Co-operative Union, highlighting the contributions of Dr Sushil Jathanna towards LMH, said, “I was born in LMH, and both my children were born here as well. In those days, it was often the nurses who rendered the most dedicated service. Protestant Christians have contributed immensely to society, quietly and without seeking publicity. LMH stands today as one of the major recognized hospitals in Karnataka. I wish Dr Sushil Jathanna and his team continued strength to serve society even more.”
Basroor Rajeev Shetty, chairman of Indian Red Cross Society, said, “This hospital carries a proud legacy of 102 years of service. It continues to progress each day with new initiatives and modern technology. Dr Sushil Jathanna truly embodies the saying that when a person works for himself, it benefits him alone, but when he works for others, it contributes to the welfare of society.”
Dr Sushil Jathanna, director of CSI LMH Udupi, presiding over the event, said, “The growth of Mission Hospital has been possible only through God’s blessings and the dedication of our staff and management committee. This auditorium has been opened for smaller programmes such as training sessions, and it will serve as a space for community engagement as well as a sanctuary for prayer and reflection. Mission Hospital is known for its service, and through this auditorium, we hope to extend that service from the wards to the wider community. Our healing hands should not remain confined to the hospital, they must reach beyond its walls.”
The programme concluded with a closing prayer led by Kishor Kumar, area chairman of Udupi Southern Diocese, and a benediction by bishop Hemachandra Kumar.
Dr B N Perlaya, HoD of the Microbiology Department, welcomed the gathering. Annet Veekshitha compered the event.
The event was attended by Raichal T J, administrative officer; Deena Prabhavathi, principal of LMCON Udupi; Suja Karkada, principal of the paramedical college; Dr Roshan Pais; PRO Rohi Ratnakar; staff members; students; and others.
