New Delhi, Dec 3: Making headlines in the world of chess, three-year-old Sarvagya Singh Kushwaha from Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh, has created history by becoming the youngest player ever to receive an official FIDE rating. At just 3 years, 7 months, and 20 days, Sarvagya surpassed the previous record held by West Bengal’s Anish Sarkar, entering the global chess rankings with an impressive 1572 rating.

Sarvagya’s journey from a toddler learning the chess pieces to an internationally rated player is nothing short of extraordinary. His parents, Siddharth Singh Kushwaha and Neha, initially introduced him to chess to limit screen time, but it soon became evident that their son had an exceptional grasp of the game. Within six months, Sarvagya was reading positions intuitively and defeating experienced players.

To secure a FIDE rating, a player must defeat at least one internationally rated opponent. Sarvagya exceeded expectations, defeating three rated players in tournaments held across Bhopal, Mangaluru, and other venues. His global rapid rating of 1572 highlights both his innate talent and disciplined training.

A strong support system has been pivotal to his success. District Collector Sandeep GR has promoted chess in the region, ensuring structured training is available in schools. National coach Akash Payasi and personal trainer Nitin Chaurasia guided Sarvagya through rigorous four-hour daily practice sessions at the District Chess Association.

His father, Siddharth, expressed pride, saying, “We see a bright future for him in chess. We want him to become a Grandmaster.” His mother, Neha, added, “God has blessed our child.”

Sarvagya’s achievement not only sets a new record but also signals the arrival of a prodigious talent in Indian chess, inspiring chess enthusiasts across the nation.
