Mangaluru, Nov 27: An enlightening career opportunities session unfolded for the grade 10 students of St Agnes School (CBSE), held in collaboration with the distinguished faculty of St Agnes PU College on November 24 in Block One Hall. Organised with the purpose of equipping students with clarity and direction at a pivotal academic juncture, the seminar sought to broaden their understanding of the diverse pathways available after grade 10 and to enable them to make informed, future-oriented decisions.

The programme began with a prayer, invoking God’s blessings for a meaningful and enlightening session. Daphny then extended a gracious welcome, highlighting the importance of timely guidance in making informed academic choices. As a gesture of respect and appreciation, the resource persons Ashwin, HOD of the physics department, and Mathew Anthony, HOD of the commerce department were presented with potted plants by vice principal Sr Meena Fernandes AC and Josephine, symbolising growth and learning.

Segment one, of the seminar was led by Ashwin, who opened with a thought-provoking reflection on the profound influence of choices. Through an engaging and intellectually stimulating discussion, he urged students to move beyond predictable patterns, noting that one’s choices often reveal aspects of one’s personality. He encouraged them to explore paths beyond the commonly chosen routes and to pursue disciplines aligned with their true interests and strengths.

Ashwin provided an insightful overview of the science stream and its wide-ranging career prospects. He explained the various subject combinations at the PU level, medical-related fields and the discipline required to excel in entrance examinations. He emphasised purposeful learning, outlined different categories of colleges, and guided students on choosing institutions based on credibility and long-term opportunities. He also introduced students to emerging high-demand careers and well-paid professional avenues, urging them to stay aware of the rapidly evolving career landscape.

The second session was conducted by Alisha, an alumna of the institution, who shared her personal journey of choosing the right academic path. She explained the key parameters she considered while selecting a college and highlighted the strengths that make St Agnes PU College an excellent choice. She concluded by urging students to choose their stream based on their inclination, ability and capability.

The third segment was led by Mathew Anthony, who offered a clear and engaging overview of the wide career avenues in the commerce stream. He outlined pathways to professions such as chartered accountancy, human resource management, company secretaryship, banking, finance and business analytics. Using practical examples, he explained the relevance of each field, the skills required and the academic routes students can pursue. He concluded by encouraging students to choose commerce confidently when their interests align with these dynamic career options.

The programme concluded with a sincere vote of thanks delivered by Siyona of grade 10, who expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the resource persons for their insightful guidance, and acknowledged the support of principal Sr Maria Sarika AC and vice principal Sr Meena Fernandes AC for facilitating such a meaningful session. She also thanked the faculty members and her fellow students for their enthusiastic participation. The programme left a lasting impact, equipping the students with clarity, direction and a stronger sense of purpose as they step into their next academic milestone.
