Gaza, Nov 27: In a dramatic escalation of tensions in the northern West Bank, Israeli security forces on Wednesday launched a sweeping operation in the city of Tubas, ordering several Palestinian families to vacate their homes as troops tightened their grip across multiple neighbourhoods.
Tubas Governor Ahmed Al-Asaad told Reuters that Israeli units, supported by a helicopter that reportedly opened fire, had encircled the city and taken strategic positions. “The incursion appears to be a prolonged one. Occupation forces have forced people out of their homes, occupied rooftops, and begun carrying out arrests,” he said, describing the situation as deeply alarming.

Armoured vehicles were seen advancing through the city’s main streets, while heavily armed troops patrolled alleys with rifles and rocket launchers. The nearby town of Tammun also witnessed troop movement, heightening fears of a wider crackdown in the region.
When questioned about the operation, Israeli government spokesperson Shosh Bedrosian stated that security forces were acting to prevent what she termed “terrorist activity.”
According to the Israeli military, the operation — involving police, army, and intelligence units — commenced early Wednesday morning. No further details were provided by military officials.
Governor Al-Asaad added that residents who were evicted from their homes have been instructed by Israeli forces not to return until the offensive is officially concluded, leaving many displaced and uncertain about the coming days.
