PIB flags fake AI videos of PM, ministers

Daijiworld Media Network – New Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 21: The Central government on Friday cautioned citizens about a series of AI-generated videos circulating online that falsely show Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das endorsing investment schemes.

In an alert issued by PIB Fact Check, officials confirmed that the clips are fake and digitally altered, created using AI tools to mimic the leaders’ voices and synchronise their lip movements to deliver fabricated investment advice.

The videos promote private platforms that falsely claim to offer “guaranteed profits”, suggesting that investments of around Rs 21,000 could yield returns of up to Rs 25 lakh. “Before you invest your money, understand the truth behind such promotional content,” PIB urged while sharing an awareness video.

The explainer details how scammers clone voices and manipulate facial movements to make the fake endorsements appear natural. “This is done to mislead people into believing that well-known leaders are promoting investment schemes,” the video stated, reaffirming that all such videos are fake.

PIB advised citizens not to click on or share any suspicious links attached to these messages. It noted that scammers often present the requested amount as an investment rather than a fee to falsely build credibility.

The fact-checking unit has urged users to report such misleading content for verification. A similar warning was issued earlier this week after a fake video of Finance Minister Sitharaman promoting an “investment scheme” went viral.
