Former St Aloysius College principal Fr Swebert D'Silva passes away at 68

Mangaluru, Nov 20: Fr Swebert D'Silva SJ, former principal of St Aloysius College, passed away following a massive cardiac arrest. He was 68.

Fr D'Silva served as the principal of St Aloysius College from 2007 to 2017, contributing significantly to the institution’s academic and administrative growth. 

Fr Swebert D’Silva was the former rector and pro-chancellor of St Joseph’s University, Bengaluru. He had earlier served as the director of St Joseph’s College of Law.

A native of Udyavar in Udupi district, he completed his early education in Udyavar before pursuing a BSc at St Aloysius College, Mangaluru. He went on to complete his MSc at Loyola College, Chennai, and an MPhil at Madras Christian College, Tambaram. He undertook his theological studies at Jnana Deepa Vidyapeeth, Pune, and studied philosophy at Sacred Heart College, Satya Nilayam, Chennai.

He was currently serving as the director of Arrupe Nivas, Bengaluru.

Having served in the field of education for many years, he was regarded as a distinguished and influential educationist.

    Fr. Sweebert is a friend from my college days. we studied PUC together at St. Aloysius college and lived in the Loyola hostel. Later he became a family fiend I am deeply saddened at his sudden passing. like losing a family member

I was fortunate to know him both at St Aloysius College and later at St Joseph’s, where his leadership, wisdom, and kindness left a lasting impact on everyone around him.
