Two killed, two injured in horrific pre-dawn car crash near Mandangad

Ratnagiri, Nov 18: A tragic road accident claimed two lives and left two others severely injured in the early hours of Tuesday in Mandangad taluk of Ratnagiri district. The fatal crash occurred near Shirgaon when a WagonR car lost control and met with a devastating collision.

The deceased have been identified as Shankar Karmarkar (50) from Rajapur in Dapoli taluk and Harshada Joshi (70), a resident of Tilak Aali, Ratnagiri. Both died on the spot due to the intensity of the impact.

According to police sources, the group was returning to Dapoli from Nashik after completing rituals related to the Solah Somvar vow at their relatives’ residence. While travelling back to Konkan, their vehicle met with the tragic accident in the Shirgaon area of Mandangad.

The injured have been identified as Pramod Mukund Limaye (60) and Omkar Pramod Limaye (35), both residents of Kelshi in Dapoli. The duo sustained serious injuries and was initially rushed to Mahad, where they are currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

Soon after the accident, locals rushed to the spot and helped shift the victims to the Mandangad district hospital. Doctors declared Shankar and Harshada dead on arrival, while the remaining two were provided emergency medical care.

Mandangad police reached the spot promptly and have initiated a case, with further investigation underway.

The death of Shankar Karmarkar, who worked as a cook and driver at a wedding hall in the Jalgaon area of Dapoli, has cast a pall of gloom over his family. He leaves behind his wife, a 14-year-old son, and siblings. Hailing originally from Dehen Rajapur in Dapoli taluk, his sudden demise has brought immense grief to the community.

Authorities are probing the exact cause of the accident.
