Rocket attack in Damascus injures woman; security on high alert

Daijiworld Media Network - Damascus

Damascus, Nov 15: A residential building in the Mazzeh 86 neighbourhood of Syria’s capital came under a rocket attack on Friday night, leaving a woman injured and triggering heightened security measures across the area.

The incident occurred when rockets, reportedly fired from a mobile launcher by unknown assailants, struck the building shortly after dusk. Security forces swiftly cordoned off the locality, blocking access as they examined the blast site. An Associated Press journalist present nearby confirmed that residents were kept at a distance while officials assessed the damage.

State television and the SANA news agency said the injured woman was taken to a hospital, while teams continued to probe the motive behind the attack.

Damascus has witnessed several explosions over the past year, though such incidents have reduced in frequency. Since the fall of President Bashar Assad’s government last December, sporadic attacks have surfaced in the capital. Meanwhile, Israel has continued airstrikes across Syria, primarily targeting Syrian army positions after the end of the 54-year Assad rule.
