Mangaluru, Nov 15: A chain collision near the Panambur signal on National Highway 66 resulted in the death of three people on the spot on Saturday morning.

The deceased are identified as Mohammed Kunchi (25), auto driver, resident of Ullal; passengers Aboobakar (65) and Ibrahim (68), both residents of Monteladavu, Konaje. Anand Sanil, who was in a car was also injured. Truck driver Mohammed Sheikh, has been arrested.

Reports indicate that vehicles had stopped at the Panambur signal. A tanker was halted at the front, with an auto-rickshaw stopped behind it. Another tanker arriving from the rear rammed into the auto-rickshaw, which then crashed into a car in front, and subsequently into another tanker ahead of it.

The auto-rickshaw was completely crushed between the two tankers, killing the rickshaw driver and two passengers instantly.

The bodies were shifted to a private hospital in the city. Mangaluru North traffic police visited the spot and conducted an inspection.
