Goa cabinet approves two-year extension in retirement age for chief engineers in key departments

Panaji, Nov 13: In a major administrative decision, the Goa Cabinet on Wednesday approved a proposal to increase the retirement age of Chief Engineers in key infrastructure departments from 60 to 62 years.

The new rule will apply to Chief Engineers serving in the Public Works Department (PWD), Water Resources Department (WRD), Department of Drinking Water (DDW), and Goa Electricity Department (GED).

Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, who chaired the cabinet meeting, announced the decision during his post-cabinet press briefing. He clarified that the two-year extension will not be granted automatically but will depend on specific conditions.

“The Chief Engineer will be permitted to continue up to the age of 62 only if there is no other eligible engineer within the department qualified to take over the post at the time of his or her retirement at 60,” Sawant stated.

The move aims to ensure administrative continuity and prevent leadership gaps in critical infrastructure departments, particularly in ongoing development and public utility projects across the state.
