Lions Club Subhashnagar observes World Diabetes Day, organizes awareness programme

Udupi, Nov 12: On the occasion of World Diabetes Day, Lions Club Subhashnagar organized a diabetes awareness programme on November 9, at the Community Hall of St John the Evangelist Church, Shankerpura.

More than 150 people benefitted from this health initiative aimed at spreading awareness about diabetes and preventive healthcare. The programme was inaugurated by Lion Hariprasad Rai, 2nd vice district governor of Lions District 317C, by lighting the ceremonial lamp. In his inaugural address, he emphasized the importance of regular health check-ups for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Fr Dr Prakash Anil Castelino, parish priest of St John the Evangelist Church, Pangla–Shankerpura, was the chief guest and blessed the gathering. In his address, he shared valuable insights and reflections on diabetes and the importance of health awareness in the community.

Dr Shruti Balal, diabetologist from Big Medical Centre, was the resource person of the session. She delivered an informative talk on diabetes management and prevention, offering practical guidance to the attendees.

The programme was compered by Lion Domian Noronha. Lion Dr Vincent Alva, club president, welcomed the guests and participants. A free blood sugar and blood pressure check-up was conducted for all attendees at the end of the session. The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Lion Richard D’Souza.

Dr Niharika Shetty and her medical team from the Primary Health Centre, Moodabettu, were also present and actively participated in the event.
