Barcelona, Nov 11: Argentina and Barcelona legend Lionel Messi shared a heartfelt message on Monday after visiting the newly renovated Camp Nou, expressing his desire to one day return and bid a proper farewell to the club where he spent the most glorious years of his career.
Messi, 38, left Barcelona in 2021 amid the club’s severe financial crisis, which prevented his contract renewal. He went on to play for Paris Saint-Germain before joining Inter Miami in 2023.

“Last night I returned to a place I deeply miss — a place where I was immensely happy, where you made me feel a thousand times like the happiest person in the world,” Messi wrote on Instagram.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner added, “I hope one day I can return, and not just to say goodbye as a player, as I was never able to do.”
Messi’s message comes shortly after he led Inter Miami to the next round of the MLS Cup play-offs, scoring twice in Saturday’s match.
During his 21-year stint with Barcelona, Messi became the club’s all-time top scorer with 672 goals in 778 appearances, guiding the team to 10 La Liga titles, four Champions League crowns, and numerous other honours.
His emotional note has reignited hopes among fans that the football icon may soon have the chance to say his long-awaited farewell at Camp Nou — the stadium that defined his legendary career.
