Vasco, Nov 9: After a seven-year hiatus, the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) in Goa is poised to make a comeback in the container shipping sector, a move expected to revitalise the state’s trade and logistics network. The port last handled container traffic in 2018, and operations are set to resume by late November 2025, marking a major milestone for Goa’s maritime economy.
According to port officials, the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) has been finalised as the feeder vessel operator for the new service. The vessel SCI Mumbai is scheduled to make its maiden call at Mormugao Port on November 20, officially restarting container movement through Goa’s premier seaport.

The development has sparked cautious optimism among exporters and trade associations, who have long advocated for the resumption of container operations to cut logistics costs and ease reliance on road transport to neighbouring ports.
“This milestone will significantly enhance Goa’s export and import potential while strengthening the region’s maritime connectivity,” said Vishnu Prasad, Senior Business Development Manager at Delta Ports (Mormugao Terminal Pvt Ltd), which operates the container terminal.
Industry observers view the revival as a strategic boost for Goa’s coastal and international trade, positioning Mormugao Port once again as a competitive logistics hub capable of supporting the state’s growing industrial and export sectors.
