Mangaluru: Student assaulted by two men over community dispute; police register case

Mangaluru, Nov 6: A college student was allegedly assaulted by two men over a dispute related to community differences while walking with classmates, police confirmed.

According to authorities, the victim, who is pursuing a degree, had gone with nine classmates on the morning of November 6,  to visit a fellow student who was recovering from illness at his home in Periyadka.

While walking in the area, two men on a motorcycle, identified as Mustafa and Mustafa Periyadka, stopped the students. “The assailants enquired about the students’ names, college, and hometown. On realising that students from different communities were together, a quarrel broke out, and one of our students was physically attacked,” police said.

The incident was reported to Uppinangadi Police Station.

A case has been registered under Sections 126(2), 352, 351(2), 115(2), 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, case number 107/2025. The accused have been taken into custody, and the investigation is ongoing.

Police added that the matter is being thoroughly investigated to ensure justice for the victim and to prevent further communal tension.
