Puttur, Nov 6: The Puttur rural police have registered a case after false documents were circulated on social media to protect accused individuals involved in illegal transport of animals.

As per FIR No. 115/2025, Sections 132, 109, 303(2) r/w 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code, 2023, and Sections 4, 5, 6, 12 of the Karnataka Prevention of Animal Slaughter and Protection Act, 2020 were invoked.

The case arose when documents allegedly showing receipts for animals being transported in a lorry were circulated online. The secretary of Channarayapatna Agricultural Produce Market Committee confirmed that the weekly livestock market is held only on Fridays, revealing that the documents (Receipt numbers 27653 and 27654) were falsified.

Further inquiries with the RTO officer and veterinary authorities confirmed that no permission had been granted for the transport of animals in the vehicle concerned.

Investigation revealed that the false documents were circulated deliberately to shield the accused. Individuals involved include the account holder of “State Office SDPI Karnataka X”, the owner/editor of Thejasnews.com, Sadath Bajathur, and several other social media users. The circulation of this fabricated information provoked public unrest, creating conditions that could have led to mob violence.

Consequently, the Puttur rural police registered FIR No. 123/2025 dated November 5 under Sections 233, 240, 338, 353(1)(b), 192, 61(2)(b), 238(c), r/w 3(5) of the IPC, 2023 against the accused.

The Dakshina Kannada police have warned that strict legal action will be taken against individuals posting false or provocative content on social media. Citizens are urged to use social media responsibly.
