New Delhi, Nov 4: India’s World Cup-winning cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues has responded to cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar’s celebratory message, saying she’s all set with her guitar and ready to jam with him after India’s maiden ICC Women’s World Cup victory.

Before the high-stakes final against South Africa, Gavaskar had shared a light-hearted promise during an India Today interview — that if India won the title, he and Jemimah would sing a song together, with her playing the guitar.

“If India win the World Cup, she and I — if she’s okay with it — will sing a song together. She’ll have her guitar, and I’ll sing along,” Gavaskar had said.

Now that India has clinched the trophy, Jemimah has gladly accepted the offer. In a cheerful video shared on her Instagram, she addressed the batting great directly:

“Hi Sunil Gavaskar sir, I saw your message and you said that if India win the World Cup we both will sing a song together. So I’m ready with my guitar — hope you’re ready with your mic! Lots of love, sir. Thank you for everything.”

India scripted history on Sunday night at the D.Y. Patil Stadium, defeating South Africa by 52 runs to capture their first-ever ICC title under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur.

Gavaskar, visibly emotional after the win, shared his own congratulatory message on Instagram.

“What a wonderful time it was at the D.Y. Patil Stadium when Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of the Indian women’s team, took the catch for India to win the ICC Women’s World Cup. What a moment it was — magnificent, inspiring, and unforgettable,” he said.

He praised the team’s resilience after a tough league stage, calling their comeback “a testament to character and determination.”

“It’s a moment to savour, to cherish, and to remember for the ages. The entire cricketing community is so proud of Harmanpreet Kaur and her team for giving us such joy and pride,” Gavaskar added.

As fans celebrate India’s groundbreaking victory, the prospect of a Gavaskar–Jemimah musical duet has only added to the post-World Cup euphoria — blending cricket, music, and a shared spirit of celebration.

Both the mumbaikars - Sunil Gavaskar and Jemimah Rodrigues are going to rock shortly when they jam up to sing a duet probably with no holds barred. While Jemi will set the tune with her guitar Sunny will surely train his vocals with good effect. It will be very fascinating to hear the elder statesman of world cricket singing with one of the youngest women players from India. Even if it is a ticketed performance, it is going to be a sell out affair. As they say, 'music has no barriers'.
