Udupi, Nov 3: “Empowerment of society is possible when more and more youngsters from the coastal region join the civil services,” said noted Kannada writer, thinker, and literary figure Aravind Chokkadi.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a civil service training workshop organised by the Udupi Diocese for aspiring students at the Anugraha Pastoral Care Centre, Kakkunje, on Sunday.
Chokkadi pointed out that youth from the coastal region show relatively less interest in competitive examinations compared to those from North India. “The desire to join civil services should come from one’s inner motivation, not due to external pressure. When entered with genuine intent, these services offer a powerful platform to use authority for the betterment of society. Preparing for such exams also helps youth stay focused and stay away from unnecessary distractions,” he added.

Presiding over the event, Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of the Udupi Diocese, said, “Only hard work can lead to success in civil services if your vision and dream are clear. One should never give up until success is achieved. Along with individual determination, encouragement from parents plays a vital role in this journey. In the coming days, the Diocese will organise more training sessions to provide detailed guidance on civil services for students.”
Civil service aspirants Jasmin Jennifer Lobo from Bantwal and Ashish Kuldeep Alva from Moodubelle shared their training experiences with the participants.
Prakash Noronha from the organisation Parichaya, Pamboor, introduced the guests, while Fr Denis D’Sa, Public Relations Officer of the Udupi Diocese, compered the event and delivered the vote of thanks.
