New Delhi, Oct 26: A 20-year-old woman suffered burn injuries on her hands after being attacked with acid by her alleged stalker and his two associates near Laxmi Bai College in northwest Delhi’s Ashok Vihar area on Sunday morning, police said.

The victim, a second-year student at a private institution, was reportedly on her way to an extra class when the trio intercepted her. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Bhisham Singh identified the main accused as Jitender, accompanied by Ishan and Arman, all of whom fled after the attack.

According to the woman’s statement, Ishan handed a bottle to Arman, who then threw the acid. The victim managed to shield her face with her hands, sustaining burns on both. She was rushed to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital for treatment, and police were notified by the attending doctors.

Forensic teams collected evidence from the scene, while initial investigations revealed that Jitender, a resident of Mukundpur — the same area as the victim — had been stalking her for months. Reports suggest a prior confrontation between them about a month earlier.

A case has been filed under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) concerning acid attacks and criminal conspiracy. Police are scanning CCTV footage and developing leads to apprehend the accused.

The assault has renewed public concern over women’s safety and the unchecked access to corrosive substances in the capital.
