New Delhi, Oct 24: In a tragic late-night accident, two cousins were burnt to death after their Fortuner SUV collided with a truck and caught fire in outer Delhi’s Rani Bagh area around 3 am on Thursday.

The victims, identified as Henry (20) of Meera Bagh and Dipanshu Chandela (21) of Paschim Vihar, were reportedly on their way to Murthal for dinner when the accident occurred. Police said the SUV rammed into a truck moving ahead, and the impact was so severe that the vehicle got stuck under the truck and was dragged for nearly 500 metres before bursting into flames.

Fire tenders were rushed to the spot after the Rani Bagh Police received a call around 3.10 am. By the time the fire was doused, both victims had been charred to death. Their bodies were later sent for post-mortem and handed over to their families.

Police have detained the truck driver, who stated that he was driving from Mundka to Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar when the SUV hit his vehicle from behind. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to determine whether speeding or any other factor led to the crash.

Henry was a BBA student in Pune, while Dipanshu was pursuing BBA in Rohini. Family members said Henry’s father works in mobile tower installation and had earlier lost another son at a similar age. Dipanshu was the son of a local property dealer and is survived by his parents and a sister.

Police said a mechanical inspection report of both vehicles is awaited to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
